The Dime

At preschool Kylie has been learning about some of the presidents in honor of President's Day last Monday. In fact on Friday the teacher was asking who the first president was and only Kylie know it was George Washington and that he was pictured on the quarter(proud Mommy moment). Unbeknownest to me they have also been learning about the different kinds of coins and how much they are worth. Now Kylie is extremly intriged by all of the coins. So last night Kylie was looking through my change and wanting to know what president was one each coin. So the conversation went like this:

Mommy who is this on the nickle
I'm not sure, I think it is President Jefferson (suprised myself when I looked it up on the internet and I was right!)
Oh, who is this man on the dime
I'm not sure, let me see it (as though the picture is going to help me) I think it is President Roosevelt (again suprising myself that I actually knew it)
No Mommy I think it is "John Palin"

I'm not sure who John Palin is but do you think this could this be a mixture of John McCain and Sara Palin's names? Because she know who was running for President and keeps asking when John McCain is going to be President, of course not understanding that he lost the election

Banana Bread

Tonight Kylie and I made Banana Bread. She loves to help me bake, she was so excited to get to taste the bread when it was done. Here she is helping me mix the ingredients.

Here she is with the finished product, and she loved it!

3 Months Old!

I can hardly believe it, baby Lacey is 3 Months old already! Where does time go? She is a wonderful addition to our family.

Playing in the Snow

Kylie wanted to go outside today. Of course I thought she would only last a few minutes because I couldn't go out with her (had to care for Lacey) and she really doesn't like to play outside by herself. To my suprise she played outside for at least 30 minutes and boy was she tired when she came in. She was so excited when she came in, she said, "Mom I had so much fun playing outside today!"

Eating snow, this is one of her favorite things to do with snow.

Using her rake to make a snow building.

When you thought I wasn't looking...Written by a former Child ...a Poem

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one..

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer and I knew there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in God.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked at you and wanted to say, "Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking."

Each of us (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher or friend) influence the life of a child.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Swimming

This time I had my camera ready, here is Kylie swimming the full length of the pool - by herself with no bubble. We were so proud of her, I think she is possibly turning the corner with her self confidence. We have always known she is capable of swimming like this but she has not always known it. Hopefully after two weeks of proving to herself that she can do it she will want to swim on her own instead of fearing swimming on her own.

Happy Valentines Day

We had a nice day here. We went out to eat and enjoyed our day together as a family. This is also Lacey's 1st Valentines day, it's crazy a week from today she will be 3 months old already - time to take more pictures (don't tell but I haven't even gotten her 2 month pictures sent yet).

Here is a picture of Kylie at her "Friendship Day" party:

Autism Sunday 2009

Today I discovered that Autism Sunday the International Day of Prayer for Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome took place on Sunday 8th February 2009. His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has invoked God’s blessings blessing on parents, carers, children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

His Holiness the Pope will be praying for the Autism Community on Autism Sunday. Cathedrals, Churches and religious organisations are to pray for over 60 million people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome around the world. All faith communities have been urged to do more for the Autism Community particularly during the deepening global recession.

Here is the song for Autism, ‘Open Every Door’ released as a film on YouTube. The song is sung by the Asian superstar Gresha Schuilling and written by singer/songwriter Nimal Mendis. ‘Open Every Door’ is released through Media Eye Music in London.

Churches and religious organisations around the world are using ‘Open Every Door’ as a point of reflection. It is a moving song about a child or young person with autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.

Our Snow Family

Yesterday Kylie and I played in the snow and had fun making a snowman family, here is the results of our fun:
Kylie has her hands on the snowman that is supposed to be her. If you look close you can see a very small snowman next to her that is supposed to be Lacey. Mommy and Daddy are on the other side of her.

Making Cookies

Kylie and I made cookies for her treat day at preschool, she had lots of fun decorating them. She was ver methodical about where the sprinkles went, none of them over lapped the other colores. We made them on Sunday but her treat day wasn't until today and believe it or not we still had enough for the entire class. Even though everday this week I heard "Mom can I just have one cookie?"
